SuperTuxKart 1.5 brings egg hunts, new soccer fields, major graphics upgrades, and more
SuperTuxKart 1.5 delivers a broad set of updates for players seeking variety and enhanced visuals. Users can now mark tracks and karts as favorites, streamlining selection and improving their experience across sessions. Building on user requests, the game window is now resizable on almost any screen, while improved selection displays reduce scrolling when choosing karts, tracks, or modes.
Following these usability improvements, the update adds new gameplay content: egg hunts arrive on Black Forest, Gran Paradisio Island, and The Old Mine tracks, and soccer mode features three new official fields: Oasis, Hole Drop, and XR-4R3N4. Additionally, six new themes double the UI skins available since version 1.4.
On the graphics front, players will notice overworld enhancements and overall visuals benefiting from advanced level of detail and shadow mapping logic. High-resolution shadow options and percentage-closer soft shadows reduce distracting visual pop-in. Parachute and Bubblegums tracks have updated spawn animations, and night tracks introduce spotlight lighting effects for karts. Game performance settings now include a customizable frame limiter ranging from 30 to 1000 frames per second and a new benchmark mode for comparing hardware performance.
Other updates cover broader accessibility: full translations in Filipino, Rusyn, and Welsh, improved audio handling, and minor fixes like better aspect ratio support, time-limited mode warnings, and improved keyboard navigation.

Most the devs are now focusing on "SuperTuxKart Evolution", the rewrite of the game (better menus, gameplay and visuals, smarter enemies, more content). It's what that the Tux games, 20 years since its inception, deserves. This one still got the good old CTR vibes though.
