Rebelle 8 officially released with new brush engine, lighting tools, and export options
Rebelle 8 has officially exited Early Access and launched as version 8.1, introducing over 40 new features and improvements. The update adds Bristle Brushes with particle-based strand simulation, RealShader with SoftShadows for more realistic lighting and paint behavior, and NanoPixel 2 for exporting artwork up to 2000% larger while preserving fine detail.
Bristle Brushes replicate each strand’s motion, allowing strokes to react naturally to pressure, color, and blending. RealShader uses environment maps to simulate light on thick paint, while SoftShadows gives brushstrokes real-time depth and volume. Users can customize built-in brushes or create new ones with the Brush Creator.
Other additions include Smooth Scaling, advanced PSD import and export, Custom Reflectivity Textures, a Symmetry Tool, Instant Paper Preview, larger brushes, and updated Escape Motions Connect with WebSocket Control Input. Rebelle 8 also introduces a new licensing model offering one year of free updates with perpetual access to the last version received. Owners of Rebelle 7 can upgrade at 50% off, and those who purchased version 7 after May 28, 2025, receive a free upgrade.
