Raspberry Pi OS updates to Debian 13 with fresh new look and unified Control Center app

Raspberry Pi OS has moved to a Debian 13 “Trixie” foundation, while continuing to use the Linux 6.12 long-term support kernel. This base update lays the groundwork for improved compatibility and future enhancements across Raspberry Pi devices.

Along with core system changes, this release introduces a redesigned desktop theme. Users will notice a completely new set of icons, a new modern font, updated desktop backgrounds, and small interface adjustments designed to modernize the visual experience.

Building on the interface improvements, a new Control Centre application consolidates system preferences. It replaces individual tools like Raspberry Pi Configuration, Appearance Settings, Mouse and Keyboard Settings, Screen Configuration, and Printer, making management of system settings more efficient for users.

In the bundled software, the Bookshelf app now highlights recent titles that are set to become free with a padlock icon, giving users visual cues about upcoming content accessibility. Meanwhile, enhancements to package management improve performance, and additional packages are now available in the slimmed-down Raspberry Pi OS Lite. These changes expand options for users running lightweight setups.
