NotebookLM adds larger Gemini context window, chat auto-save and customizable goal setting
Google is rolling out significant updates to NotebookLM, aiming to make the platform fundamentally smarter and more capable. Building on these improvements, NotebookLM chat now leverages Google’s latest Gemini models, enabling the full 1 million token context window across all plans. This advancement allows for much improved performance and quality, especially when analyzing large document collections, and enhances the system's contextual understanding and information retrieval.
Following these foundational changes, NotebookLM also introduces the automatic saving of conversations. Users can now close a session and return later without losing any conversation history, supporting more seamless and flexible workflows. At the same time, chat customization is now available to all users. Anyone can tailor the chat's goal, voice, or role—choosing from options such as a PhD student analyzing sources or a creative storyteller exploring ideas — broadening use cases and personalization.
As a result of these updates, NotebookLM now delivers more precise, insightful, and context-aware responses, and adapts more effectively to project-specific goals.
