Apple discontinues Clips, its long forgotten video editing app for iOS

Apple has confirmed it will discontinue its Clips video-editing app for iOS, ending an eight-year run since the app's launch. The company stated via an updated support page that Clips will no longer receive updates and was removed from the App Store on October 10, 2025.

While no further updates are planned, existing users will be able to continue using Clips on devices running iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 or earlier. This allows current installations to function beyond the removal date, although installation on new devices will not be available.

For users concerned about preserving their videos, Apple advises saving finished creations to the photo library or another destination, including versions with special effects or clips without effects. Following this guidance, videos can be viewed in other apps such as Photos, or used to create new projects in iMovie or alternative third-party video-editing software. This information ensures current users have options to access and migrate their media even after support for Clips ends.
