Rhino Linux 2025.1 brings Linux 6.12 LTS, dynamic workspaces & enhanced package management

Rhino Linux has unveiled version 2025.1, bringing a host of updates to this Ubuntu-based rolling release distribution. The release is underpinned by the Linux kernel 6.12 LTS and incorporates Pacstall 6.1.0, a package manager inspired by Arch Linux's AUR, tailored for Ubuntu users.

A significant update is the enhancement of the Unicorn Desktop, based on Xfce, now featuring dynamic workspaces for increased efficiency and flexibility. Users will also notice a custom GRUB theme, providing a modern touch to the boot process.

Rhino Linux 2025.1 introduces Rhino Stampede, a testing meta-package designed to facilitate the testing of new features, though users should note that packages within it are in progress. Additionally, the release debuts the Hello Rhino application, written in Rust with IcedTK, offering quick access to essential resources such as the Rhino Linux homepage and community links.

Since the previous release, Pacstall has undergone major improvements, including the launch of the Chaotic Pacstall Prebuilt Repository (PPR), which automates the building of DEB packages from Pacstall scripts. The update also includes various enhancements and bug fixes, contributing to a refined user experience.
