Raycast 1.90 adds new AI models: DeepSeek R1, OpenAI o1, Gemini 1.5, and Perplexity Sonar
Raycast has launched version 1.90, enhancing its capabilities as a macOS app launcher and productivity tool. This update introduces a variety of new AI models. Among the additions is DeepSeek's R1 model, which recently gained significant attention. The update also integrates models from Google Gemini, including Gemini 1.5 Flash, Gemini 1.5 Pro, and Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking models. Users will also find new models from xAI Grok, Perplexity, and OpenAI, including the o1-mini and o1-preview reasoning models, expanding the range of AI tools available within Raycast.
In addition to the new models, Raycast 1.90 addresses several issues with Raycast Focus, particularly those concerning blocked websites. The update also enhances model fallback functionality, ensuring smoother transitions when a chat's current model becomes unavailable. These improvements aim to streamline user experience and maintain productivity.

After another commenter here pointed out the AI functions of Raycast vs Alfred I decided to recheck it out as I had been using Kagi's AI assistant. Overall, I decided that Raycast AI commands are cool, but overpriced. Especially as ChatGPT seems to be the overall best quality for my use case. So decided to stick to Alfred + Chatbox [which I found thanks to alternativeto.net! seriously love this site!] Chatbox isn't as polished as Raycast's AI commands but after doing the math at $3/mo vs $16/mo I'm willing to live with the slight amount of extra work for $156/yr savings. Now if Raycast would let you use your own API key instead of forcing their $8/mo extra addon, that could be a whole different story.
Great to hear about Chatbox! I hadn’t heard of it before. It might not be as robust as Raycast’s native AI Chat tool, but have you tried this ChatGPT extension? It lets you connect your own API, so it might be another option: https://www.raycast.com/abielzulio/chatgpt
Yeah, I tried it first and could never get it to work for what I wanted very well.
I'd like to try writersbrew.app but it doesn't have a trial... has a Raycast integration though... but I just can't tell what it can really do based on the website info alone.
