MX Linux 23.5 released, based on Debian 12.9, with Xfce 4.20 and several enhancements

MX Linux has rolled out version 23.5, featuring a series of updates and enhancements. This release is built on Debian 12.9 “Bookworm” and operates on Linux 6.1/6.12 kernels. A significant highlight is the introduction of Xfce 4.20, delivering visual and performance improvements across Xfce-based editions, including the Pi respin, for a refined desktop experience.

The MX Packageinstaller has received user interface upgrades and enhanced package version displays for third-party repositories. The live system now issues additional warnings when persistence is enabled on read-only boot media. System setup is further streamlined with updates to the default fstab file and additional fallback modes in the installer.

Version 23.5 also brings language updates, new applications in the MX “test” repository, and various bug fixes. All standard MX Linux editions — Xfce, KDE, and Fluxbox — are equipped with the updated 6.1 LTS kernel. The AHS variant includes the 6.12 liquorix kernel, configured for automatic updates to support the latest hardware developments. Additionally, the MX Raspberry Pi Respin has been updated with the newest packages from the MX and RPiOS repositories.
