HomeAssistant 2025.1 enhances backup system with automated backups & cloud storage options
The Home Assistant team has introduced a major update to its backup system, focusing on improved user experience and reliability. The revamped system now includes automated backups at 4:45 AM, ensuring users consistently have a recent backup available. Additionally, users can initiate on-demand backups, which are particularly useful during significant system changes, while also being able to monitor schedules and receive notifications.
Home Assistant Cloud subscribers receive 5GB of encrypted cloud storage at no extra cost, accessible via the app or Nabu Casa’s website. The new system supports a range of storage solutions, including potential integrations with NAS devices, Google Drive, and Backblaze B2, offering users flexibility in their choice of storage provider. All backups are now encrypted with AES-128 by default, and a setup wizard aids users in configuring encryption, scheduling, and retention settings.
The update also includes several improvements across categories and labels, navigation, new integrations, dashboard settings, and more, which you can check in the full changelog here.
