Dillo 3.2 released with SVG & WebP support, improved navigation, page zoom options, & more
Dillo has released version 3.2 of its lightweight and open source web browser, marking a significant update just nine months after its return. The new version introduces several key features and improvements, such as SVG support for math formulas and simple SVG images, enhancing compatibility with Wikipedia math articles. Additionally, it offers optional support for WebP images and incorporates new CSS units, including ch, rem, vw, vh, vmin, and vmax.
A notable feature in this update is the new scrollbar page navigation mode, designed to facilitate reading websites like books, minimizing mouse wheel usage. Users now have the option to place the scrollbar on the left side and can set a custom new tab page via the new_tab_page option. The link_action option allows users to define custom commands for opening new URLs, which can be accessed through the right-click link menu.
The update also enhances image resizing logic to maintain aspect ratios and addresses several technical fixes, including GET requests over HTTPS via a proxy. Dillo 3.2 achieves compliance with C99, C++11, and POSIX-2001 standards, eliminating reliance on GNU extensions. JSON content can now be displayed as plain text, and zoom support has been added, with a zoom_factor option for setting default zoom levels.
Additional enhancements include fixing redirects caused by meta refresh without URLs, adding line number anchors in HTML source view, and enabling page reloads via the SIGUSR1 signal, aiding live web page editing.
