Bluesky and X introduce new vertical video feeds to fill TikTok void
Amidst uncertainty surrounding TikTok's future in the U.S., social media platforms are rapidly introducing features to potentially capture users seeking alternatives. Bluesky has announced the launch of a custom feed for vertical videos within its app. This feature allows users to swipe up to view a timeline dedicated solely to video posts, with options to pin the feed on the home screen or add it to a list of feeds. Additionally, Bluesky is recognizing developers creating TikTok alternatives on the AT Protocol, including Tik.Blue, Skylight.Social, and Bluescreen.Blue, which are currently in early development stages with closed testing. Users on Bluesky can upload videos up to 59 seconds long, with the update now available on mobile.
Concurrently, X has started rolling out a video tab to U.S. users, offering a full-screen video experience. This new feature allows users to explore a personalized feed of recommended videos across various categories like sports, entertainment, and news, accessible via the play button icon in the app's navigation bar.

It does seem that all the platforms copy from each other, vertical nonsense videos of stupid people and all the rest. I miss the simple days of early MySpace or very early Twitter before the world lost itself in social media and smartphone obsession/addiction. No need for any of it.
It feels egregious to have vertical videos on every single social media which why addons and 3rd party software exist to mitigate it.
