Roblox unveils new open-source AI tool to create 3D game environments from text prompts
Roblox has announced that is working on a new AI tool aimed at helping game creators generate 3D environments through text prompts, simplifying the process for those lacking advanced design skills. The tool, built on a "3D foundational model," has no specified release date, as reported by MIT Tech Review. A demonstration video shows how users can type commands like "create a race track" or "make the scenery a desert," and the AI generates the corresponding 3D environment. The model can also modify existing environments based on user inputs, such as changing the time of day or altering landscapes.
The AI system tokenizes 3D blocks from user-created worlds, assigns numerical values to predict subsequent steps, and will eventually accept text, video, and 3D inputs to create more intricate game worlds, making development more accessible to a broader range of creators.
Anupam Singh, Roblox’s VP of Engineering for Growth & AI Platform, stated that the AI model will be open source, enabling competitors and developers to use it, though the code and specific license details have not yet been released.
