Element X, Call, and Server Suite launch with Matrix 2.0 for high-speed and E2EE messaging
Element X, Call, and Server Suite have officially launched, marking the debut of the first communication platform built on Matrix 2.0. This release introduces high-speed performance, end-to-end encryption, and decentralized self-hosting capabilities, aiming to deliver a secure and efficient messaging experience.
Matrix 2.0 powers Element X, offering performance comparable to centralized consumer messaging apps and addressing shadow IT issues in workplaces. Element X features a highly responsive messaging experience, with speeds 20,000 times faster than its predecessor. The use of Rust enhances performance and reliability, enabling instant login, launch, and sync. The Simplified Sliding Sync API (SSS) ensures immediate app responsiveness, utilizing SwiftUI and Jetpack Compose for a seamless user interface.
Element Call, now integrated into Element X and Element Web/Desktop, supports native Matrix-encrypted voice and video calls, eliminating the need for third-party systems like Jitsi and bolstering security. The Element Server Suite (ESS) offers enterprise-grade Matrix 2.0 performance, providing secure, scalable communication with regular updates and long-term support.
ESS deployment is simplified with Kubernetes Operators and Helm charts, supporting extensive customization and integrations. Enhanced security features include OpenID Connect (OIDC) and the Matrix Authentication Service (MAS), ensuring seamless identity management and improved server-side synchronization for faster, more reliable performance.
