Apple Maps introduces national park hikes discovery, custom routes, and new Places Library

With the release of iOS 18, iPadOS 18, macOS Sequoia, and watchOS 11 today, Apple Maps introduces several new features aimed at enhancing user exploration and discovery. Users can now discover hikes in U.S. national parks, create custom walking routes, and save favorite spots to a new Places Library.

Starting today, Apple Maps users can browse thousands of hikes across U.S. national parks, including Acadia, Yosemite, and Denali, on iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch. To aid in finding the perfect trail, users can filter hikes by route type, length, and elevation, and follow turn-by-turn navigation to stay on track. Additionally, hikes can be downloaded for offline use and saved to Apple Watch.

Maps also now displays shuttle schedules for select national parks, such as Bryce Canyon and Sequoia. Globally, Maps users can create and save custom hiking and walking routes tailored to their preferences, whether for urban exploration or nature hikes.

The new Places Library feature allows users to keep track of favorite spots and discover new ones. On iPhone, iPad, and Mac, users can save places, curated Maps Guides, national park hikes, and custom routes, along with personal notes about each location.
