Android 15 AOSP brings enhanced security, productivity and superior media experiences

Matthew McCullough, VP of Product Management for Android, has announced the release of Android 15 along with the source code for the Android Open Source Project (AOSP). Android 15 will be available on supported Pixel devices in the coming weeks, with select devices from manufacturers like Samsung, Honor, iQOO, Lenovo, Motorola, Nothing, OnePlus, Oppo, realme, Sharp, Sony, Tecno, vivo, and Xiaomi receiving the update in the coming months.

Android 15 focuses on enhancing security and productivity, offering new tools for developing visually appealing apps, superior media and camera experiences, and an intuitive user interface, particularly for tablets and foldable devices. The release also includes updates to development tools such as Android Studio, Jetpack Compose, and Android Jetpack libraries, providing new insights and telemetry to optimize app performance across platform releases.

Supported Pixel device users will receive the Android 15 update over the air when it becomes available. Those eager to try it sooner can join the Android 15 QPR beta program to access the most recent quarterly platform release.
