PeaZip 9.9.0 released with new features, enhanced file support and improved Linux tools
PeaZip 9.9.0 has been released, featuring several new enhancements for the open-source file compression and encryption software. Key updates include support for internal drag-and-drop extraction from the file and archive browsers to the sidebar, enabling users to extract entire archives or selected content easily. The update also introduces a new “Extract here” quick link on the toolbar, an improved System tools menu for Linux users, and a revamped task launcher GUI.
Additionally, the new version enhances reading capabilities for DMG, IMG, RPM, and SQUASHFS files, and updates compression presets to support the latest options. Technical improvements include an updated Zstandard (Zstd) compression algorithm to version 1.5.6 and optional extra KDF rounds for triple cascaded encryption in the .PEA format. The release also addresses issues such as custom compression settings, browsing archives with absolute paths, and UAC elevation in the file browser for Windows systems.
