AnandTech shuts down after 27 years, citing decline in in-depth tech journalism

The popular tech and hardware reviews site AnandTech is closing its doors after 27 years. Ryan Smith, the site's final editor-in-chief, announced the shutdown in a farewell post, citing a decline in the market for in-depth tech journalism. Smith pointed to a broader industry shift towards sensationalism and clickbait content as a significant factor in the decision.

Founded in 1997 by Anand Lal Shimpi, AnandTech gained a reputation for its thorough and high-quality reviews of computer components. Over the years, it became a trusted source for tech enthusiasts seeking in-depth analysis and reliable information.

Despite its closure, AnandTech's legacy will be preserved. Future PLC, the site's publisher, will maintain the content archive indefinitely. Additionally, the AnandTech Forums will remain active, continuing to be a resource for hardware enthusiasts and moderated by Future's community team.

This is sad news, but I agree that the industry seems to be gravitating towards sensationalism, and that's the main reason why less and less people trust journalists these days...
