Amarok releases version 3.1 with Last.fm integration and KDE Frameworks update

Amarok 3.1 has been released, bringing significant updates and enhancements. This new version introduces a new Last.fm Similar Artists context applet compatible with the Amarok 3.x series and updates the Last.fm plugin for improved security with token-based authentication. Other notable improvements include remembering the previous destination provider when saving playlists, updates to the About dialog, and the ability to sort the playlist’s breadcrumb menu by localized names.

The release also addresses several functional and stability issues, such as disabling gapless playback to prevent volume spikes when ReplayGain is active and the following track is from a different album. Enhancements include better saving and restoring of the playlist queue, reordering the system tray icon menu, and fixing zero track progress indications during track changes. Additionally, various UI and compilation bugs have been resolved. The underlying codebase has been updated to KDE Frameworks 5.89, with ongoing efforts to port Amarok to Qt 6 and KDE Frameworks 6.
