Stripe acquires payment processing platform Lemon Squeezy
Stripe has announced the acquisition of Lemon Squeezy, a payment processing platform specializing in merchant of record services for SaaS and software businesses. The acquisition was confirmed by Lemon Squeezy co-founder and CEO JR Farr in a blog post. Lemon Squeezy, operational since 2020, handles global sales tax calculations, payments for digital products, and legal processing across different countries.
Stripe CEO Patrick Collison highlighted their plans to scale merchant of record selling, while Farr highlighted Stripe as the ideal partner due to its strong developer experience, high API standards, and commitment to quality, noting that both companies share a mission to make selling effortless. Notably, Lemon Squeezy has utilized Stripe for payment processing since its start.
Although specific details about the collaboration between Stripe and Lemon Squeezy are scarce, Farr assured that teams from both organizations will "join forces." He reassured existing Lemon Squeezy customers that their commitment to providing reliable products and services will remain strong.
