Mastodon enhances journalism engagement with new author byline feature

Mastodon has introduced a new feature aimed at bolstering the platform as a hub for journalism. Effective immediately, users can click on the author byline under certain shared links to open the author's associated Fediverse account directly within the app. This new functionality highlights journalists active on the Fediverse, facilitating easier following and tracking of their work across various publications.

The Verge, MacStories, and MacRumors are among the first websites to adopt this feature. Users on Mastodon.social, whether on the web version or official mobile apps, will see these associated Fediverse accounts under articles, regardless of who shares them. Additionally, this feature is integrated into Mastodon's API, paving the way for potential support across numerous third-party Mastodon apps.
