Forgejo v8.0 launches with new dependency dashboard, new UI changes and enhanced stability
Forgejo v8.0 has been released, alongside Forgejo v7.0.6, primarily to address licensing issues affecting frontend features such as APA citation format, mermaid ELK rendering, and contributor graph displays. This release emphasizes increased stability with fewer random UI modifications, thanks to the efforts of a new UI team.
A key addition in Forgejo v8.0 is a new dependency dashboard for closely monitoring dependencies to enhance stability and security. The focus on backward compatibility ensures minimal breaking changes. For users prioritizing stability over new features, Forgejo v7.0, a Long Term Support release, will continue receiving bug fixes until July 16, 2025. Forgejo v8.0 itself will be supported until October 16, 2024, when Forgejo v9.0 is scheduled for release.
A dedicated test instance is available for users to try out Forgejo v8.0. Users are strongly advised to make a full backup before upgrading, follow the upgrade guide, and review all breaking changes noted in the release notes. Interested users can find a detailed list of new features and improvements in the official announcement.
