Vivaldi 6.8 released with real-time memory usage, enhanced Break Mode and Vivaldi Mail 2.0

Vivaldi has rolled out version 6.8 of its desktop web browser, introducing significant updates. The latest update enhances the browsing experience with features like real-time memory usage monitoring for tabs and automatic hibernation of inactive tabs through the Memory Saver in the tabs settings. This feature frees up memory for active tabs, improving overall browser performance.

Additionally, Vivaldi 6.8 offers an improved Break Mode, enhancements to the Workspaces Quick Command, a Switch to Tab button in the address field, and an option to import extensions from other Chromium-based browsers.

On the email front, Vivaldi Mail 2.0 now includes prefetching by default, automatically downloading the last 30 days’ worth of emails and retrieving all messages visible on the screen. This allows users to find emails more efficiently and see 1 to 3 lines of preview without opening the email. The new version also introduces a quick reply text box at the bottom of the email pane and an undo feature that tracks up to 200 recent actions, allowing users to undo them with a single click.

This is why I love Vivaldi, the true spiritual successor to Opera. I would like to see them develop another browser engine to fight our current monoculture (Presto was pretty cool back in the day). But I understand why they do not, given the expense and investment involved.
