Obsidian 1.6 released with enhanced RTL support, new vault profile, and improved footnotes
Obsidian, a widely-used private and flexible writing app, has rolled out its version 1.6 for both desktop and mobile platforms. This update addresses several long-standing issues, notably improving support for right-to-left (RTL) languages. The editor now detects language direction per line, enhancing adaptability for mixed-language usage. Additionally, the interface mirrors itself when set to an RTL language.
The update also refines the editing and reading experience of footnotes and introduces a new vault profile feature. The vault name is now always visible in the primary sidebar, simplifying vault switching. Users can now hide the app ribbon in settings, and character and word counts update based on current text selection. Faster workspace loading and improved parsing of longer Markdown files are also part of this release.
In the Quick switcher and “Move files” prompt, the Tab key now completes the path segment of the selected file. On mobile, the sidebars have undergone a slight design refresh, and notices now appear at the bottom of the screen. This release also includes numerous bug fixes, small improvements, and performance enhancements for loading and editing.
