Jami 'Astarte' brings modernized UI, online presence statuses, and improved performance
Jami, the private and end-to-end encrypted communication software, has unveiled its newest version, Astarte, named after the goddess of love and war. This update introduces a modernized look and feel across desktop platforms (Windows, macOS, and Linux), featuring frameless windows that replace native OS window decorations for a sleek interface.
Key additions include online presence statuses, indicated by colored circles next to contacts, and message statuses in chat views across all platforms, enhancing the reliability of message delivery and read receipts. For Android users, a new biometric authentication option simplifies account security, eliminating the need to repeatedly enter passwords for protected actions.
Performance improvements are notable in Jami Astarte, with faster startup times and better synchronization of profile data and conversations. iOS users benefit from dedicated video views for each participant, optimizing screen space and streamlining conference management. Other iOS enhancements include message replies, emoji reactions, and the ability to edit or delete messages. The user interface for creating swarms has been updated for ease of use, and the conversation interface has been revamped for a more intuitive experience.
Connectivity issues have seen major progress, with Jami extending the automatic test battery for OpenDHT to improve reliability on mobile devices. This initiative has reduced bugs related to latency in listen operations and proxy server functions, ensuring smoother communication.
