Darktable 4.8: new color equalizer, canvas tools, and enhanced camera support released

darktable 4.8, the latest update of the open-source RAW image editor, has been released with significant new features and improvements, including a new Color Equalizer Module, which offers precise control over hue, lightness, and saturation based on colors. The update also introduces the Enlarge Canvas and Overlay modules for advanced image composition.

A new toggle for Darkroom Mode enhances pixel-pipe processing by using the entire image data, improving editing capabilities. The update supports DNG files with CameraCalibration tags for accurate white balancing and adds a dashed outline feature in the print view to indicate the selected area. Linux users now have GVFs mount support for in-place image imports, and a CMYK-profiled histogram has been introduced for professional printing needs.

Enhancements in the highlights reconstruction module now support mask blending, and the image information module includes extended EXIF fields. Camera support has been expanded to include models such as the Canon EOS R100, Canon EOS R50, and Canon EOS R6 Mark II, among others. Darktable 4.8 is available for download on the official website for all supported platforms, including GNU/Linux, and as a Flatpak app from Flathub.
