RealVNC to discontinue free Home subscription for remote access solution in June 2024
RealVNC has officially announced the discontinuation of the free Home subscription option for RealVNC Connect, their flagship remote access solution. The decision, which will come into effect on June 17th, 2024, was revealed through a help page on their website. The move follows a revamp of the company's subscription options almost a year ago, designed to cater to a broader user base.
Existing users wishing to avoid disruption will need to upgrade to a paid subscription, starting at €2.99 per device and per month. Upon upgrading, teams will be migrated automatically to the new subscription. To incentivize the transition, RealVNC is offering a 20% discount on the first year's subscription for early switchers.
However, this decision has not been received well by the user community, with many users expressing dissatisfaction and exploring free alternatives on platforms like Reddit and various forums.
Post June 17th, 2024, connections on Home subscriptions will be blocked. Users will have a limited time to move to a paid subscription before their Home subscription is deleted. RealVNC has also stated that users can still sign up for a Lite plan, restricted to non-commercial use only. This plan limits users to one user and three devices, with a reduced set of features.
