K-9 Mail for Android releases bugfix update 6.802 improving notifications and IMAP support
The second bugfix release, K-9 Mail 6.802 for Android, has been launched by K-9 Mail as part of their ongoing efforts to rectify software issues and enhance overall functionality. Notable improvements in this release include a notification feature for users when permission to schedule exact alarms is not granted, a renaming of the "Send client ID" setting to "Send client information", and added support for the NonExistent LIST response attribute in IMAP.
Push notifications have been also improved, with users now required to grant permission to schedule exact alarms before enabling Push. K-9 Mail has also integrated Google's Material Design 3 in a technical overhaul, with further adjustments planned for User Interface (UI) elements to match new design guidelines. The software is being updated to target Android 14 to leverage security features and meet system requirements for future updates on Google Play.
It's worth mentioning that the company is also currently working on an upcoming official version of Thunderbird for Android alongside K-9 Mail, and although the former has not yet been released, both apps are now being built from the same source code, with Thunderbird for Android featuring a new logo and initial theming, while retaining distinct app-specific elements. However, several tasks, including replacing hard-coded strings with placeholders and refining the About screen, need to be addressed before the final release of Thunderbird for Android.
