Jellyfin 10.9 introduces live video preview, multiple subtitle tracks, and improved search
Jellyfin, an open source media solution, has released its latest version 10.9.0, which includes new features, improvements, and bug fixes. The update discontinues support for non-LTS Ubuntu releases and drops official RPM packages, recommending users to switch to the RPM Fusion repository or the Docker container instead.
The 10.9.0 version introduces “trickplay” or live video scrubbing, allowing users to preview the video at a particular timestamp while scrubbing. It also improves web redirection handling, reducing the likelihood of encountering dead or invalid pages in the interface. The DLNA support has been modified and is now provided by a plugin, and AVIF and WEBP images are now supported for picture libraries. The search functionality has also been improved, with tags now included in search results.
The new version also supports multiple simultaneous subtitle tracks in the web player and has an overhauled administrative dashboard UI for enhanced usability and easier option discovery. Version 10.9.0 includes API and security updates, along with other minor enhancements and bug fixes, with the goal of making Jellyfin a more robust and user-friendly media solution.
