iTerm2 v3.5.0 launches with ChatGPT integration and support for LastPass & 1Password

After two years of development and numerous changes, iTerm2, a highly popular terminal emulator for macOS users, has launched its version 3.5.0. One of the major enhancements is the integration of OpenAI's ChatGPT API, which enables iTerm2 to write commands, interpret command outputs, and guide users towards achieving their objectives.

The new version introduces an Edit Find Filter menu item, enabling users to hide lines not matching a substring or regular expression, a feature particularly useful in log analysis. Additionally, the update allows users to select a command by clicking on it, after which Search, Filter, and Select All functions will be limited to the selected command.

Version 3.5.0 introduces support for separate light/dark mode colors. For users with shell integration, if a command's output extends beyond the top of the screen, the command will be displayed at the top. The update also includes a “Render Selection” feature, which replaces selected text with a natively rendered view.

The integrated password manager in iTerm2 can now interface with LastPass and 1Password, as opposed to solely the Apple Keychain. The update also includes a budding SSH integration feature for testing. This can be activated by setting a profile's command to SSH, allowing users to export environment variables and copy files to a remote host.

An experimental “auto composer” feature is part of the new update, replacing the command line with a native control. This feature is currently in development. iTerm2 3.5.0 also brings performance enhancements, a refined user interface, and numerous quality-of-life improvements and bug fixes.
