Android's Quick Share to introduce QR codes, bypassing Wi-Fi and Bluetooth

Android's Quick Share is expected to incorporate QR codes to ease device connections, eliminating the need for Wi-Fi networks or Bluetooth proximity. This addition will streamline the user setup process, even though Wi-Fi offers faster file transfer speeds than Bluetooth.

Google app researcher, AssembleDebug, has hinted at the upcoming QR code support in Quick Share, based on insights from Google Play Services' version 24.20.13. To use the QR code feature in Quick Share, users must allow Bluetooth and Location permissions, and then the QR code will hold a nearby URL that triggers a connection between devices.

Once the feature is live, a "Share with QR code" option will appear in the Android system share sheet for easy access. The release date for this feature is still unknown, but it's important to mention that scanning the QR code with an iPhone will not enable wireless file transfers with an Android device. Instead, it will lead users to a Quick Share support page.
