AlmaLinux releases version 9.4 'Seafoam Ocelot' with enhanced security and data protection

Linux distribution AlmaLinux has just made its version 9.4, code-named “Seafoam Ocelot”, generally available. This release, like its predecessors, has been built from the same sources as Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), ensuring full compatibility.

The new version is available for various architectures such as Intel/AMD, ARM64, IBM PowerPC, and IBM Z. The main goal of this release is to improve machine security and data protection, with updates aimed at enhancing system availability, reliability, recovery operations, and virtual machine snapshot capabilities in hybrid cloud environments.

AlmaLinux 9.4 also introduces enhancements in the web-console and system roles to automate extra operations and maintain consistency in complex IT environments. New system roles have been added to aid in the creation and management of logical volume manager (LVM) snapshots, thereby improving data backup and recovery processes. The release further refines performance, scalability, and reliability, offering developers a more robust platform for application development and management.

The creators of AlmaLinux have designed it as a 1:1 binary compatible fork of RHEL® 8. As a Linux-based OS, it offers extensive customization options. Its top alternatives include Linux Mint, Manjaro Linux, and Windows 10.
