The first Android 15 Beta has been released, here's what's new

Google has launched the first beta of Android 15, opening the experience to developers and early adopters. The beta can be accessed on any supported Pixel device, with future Android 15 Beta and feature drop Beta updates available over-the-air.

Android 15 introduces a significant change in how apps are displayed on devices. Apps targeting Android 15 will be displayed edge-to-edge by default. To facilitate this, many of the Material 3 composables handle insets depending on their placement in your app following the Material specifications.

The new Android version also aims to enhance the tap-to-pay experience, making it more seamless and reliable. Apps can now register a fingerprint on supported devices for smooth operation with multiple NFC-aware applications.

Another notable feature in Android 15 is the introduction of letter spacing for text justification. The new OS version also supports app archiving and unarchiving at the OS level, simplifying the process for all app stores.

For app profiling, Android 15 includes the new ProfilingManager class, allowing the collection of profiling information within an app. The new OS version also improves support for Braille, key management for end-to-end encryption, and overall security.

Google anticipates reaching Platform Stability for Android 15 in June 2024. Once this milestone is achieved, app developers will have several months to conduct final testing before the official release.
