Proton expands product suite with acquisition of encrypted note-taking app Standard Notes
Proton, known for its suite of products including Proton Mail, Proton Calendar, Proton Drive, Proton Pass, and Proton VPN, has announced its acquisition of Standard Notes, an end-to-end encrypted note-taking application. This marks the second acquisition for Proton, following its purchase of SimpleLogin, an email alias service, in 2022.
Standard Notes, which is available on both mobile and desktop platforms, will continue to be open source, freely available, and fully supported under Proton's ownership. Current pricing will remain unchanged, and existing subscriptions will be honored.
In their announcement, Proton expressed its commitment to open-source projects, stating, “Proton aspires to do the right thing and be a responsible home for open-source projects, and just as we did with SimpleLogin, we are committed to preserving what makes Standard Notes special and much loved.”
Proton also indicated its intention to integrate Standard Notes more closely with the Proton community, thereby extending its protection to users' notes in addition to their email, calendar, files, passwords, and online activity.

I remember checking SN at one point, (along with a ton of other note taking apps/software/services) but nothing meets my needs as OneNote does, unfortunately. Hey if Proton topple MS in that regard - I'll be a subscriber fol life no questions asked.
SN free tier is really lacking, so hopefully SN pro features will be available for users who pay for proton.
me too if notes i'll stay on joplin haha
I'm absolutely ecstatic about this. I really love Proton, and I really enjoyed Standard Notes with the one exception of how the software didn't allow local file management (like Obsidian does). I was blown away and so happy Proton took on SimpleLogin, and very happy that Standard Notes got acquired too. Maybe with the Proton + SN integration, it will be a beautiful product. Excited to see what happens!
