Media player MPV has released version 0.38 with many enhancements and fixes
MPV, the widely used open source media player, has launched its latest version 0.38. The new release requires FFmpeg 4.4 or newer and libplacebo 6.338.2 or newer.
A noteworthy aspect of this release is the ongoing work on an enhanced renderer, vo_gpu_next, which is not the default yet. MPV 0.38 introduces new scripting features, a function to automatically activate deinterlacing, and enhanced Now Playing information and functionality.
Incorporating MoltenVK to enable Vulkan support is a significant part of this update. Additionally, a new Ctrl+WHEEL_UP/DOWN binding to video-zoom has been added.
The update also introduces initial support for the AVFoundation audio driver on macOS, incorporates context menu support on win32, and allows disabling special mouse wheel behavior. Other new features include support for dynamic change of geometry (autofit), the ability to DPI scale in unit of 0.5, and separate file saving for cache.
MPV 0.38 also includes considerable amounts of refactoring, internal improvements and cleanups, and debanding has been removed from the high-quality profile, among other changes, enhancements, and bug fixes.
