kickstarter introduces 'late pledges' feature for post-campaign contributions
Kickstarter has introduced a new feature called "Late Pledges" that allows backers to pre-order products even after a campaign has ended. This feature, similar to IndieGoGo InDemand, is designed to facilitate post-campaign contributions, improving the experience for both backers and creators on the platform.
Previously, Kickstarter projects could only run between one and 60 days, after which creators had to switch platforms to continue fundraising. The new feature will enable supporters to contribute to projects after the fundraising period has ended. However, creators must close late pledges for reward tiers when they start fulfilling their promises, and Kickstarter recommends ending late pledges if no new ones are received within a 30-day period.
This model allows creators to continue collecting funds after the campaign's end date, with funds being disbursed monthly, and once late pledges are turned off, creators won't have the option to turn them back on. Kickstarter is currently testing the late pledge feature with a select group of users and aims to roll it out to all creators in the upcoming months.
