Google to introduce 'Lookup' feature for unknown callers on Pixel Phone app for Android

Google is reportedly gearing up to introduce a new feature called 'Lookup' to the Phone app for Pixel users. As per information from PiunikaWeb, the 'Lookup' option becomes visible when an unknown number is selected from the 'Recents' tab in the Phone app. Clicking on this button will display a list of apps on the device that are capable of executing a web search.

The 'Lookup' feature seems to be designed to identify calls from businesses that have their contact information listed on Google or other search engines, not private individuals. As such, it does not seem to be a potential replacement for apps like Truecaller or similar.

The Lookup feature can be accessed in the Phone app beta version 127.0.620688474 on Pixel devices. While the Google Phone app is the default on Pixel phones, other Android users can also download it from the Google Play Store.

The final appearance of this feature may vary when it is officially released, which might be in a future feature drop. It's also possible that the Lookup button is in the early stages of development and may take time to be integrated into the Phone app on the Google Pixel series.

In related news, Google is planning to integrate Gemini email summaries into the Android version of the Gmail app. The feature, currently available as a “Summarize this email” button beneath an email's subject line, will provide a summary when pressed.
