Google Photos will offer AI editing features like Magic Eraser & Photo Unblur free for all
Google Photos is opening up its AI-powered editing features, previously exclusive to Pixel devices and Google One paid subscribers, to all users. These features, which include Magic Editor, Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, and Portrait Light, among others, will be accessible free of charge.
Some of the key features, such as the Magic Editor, employs generative AI for intricate edits such as altering skies, removing objects or people, and adjusting the position of subjects. Similarly, Photo UnBlur enhances clarity for photos with pronounced blurs, while the Magic Eraser tool allows users to remove people, animals, or objects from their images. The update will begin its rollout on May 15th, but it could take several weeks for all Google Photos users to receive it.
The tools have specific hardware requirements, including Android 8.0 or iOS 15 for mobile devices. Pixel devices will enjoy unlimited access to Magic Editor, while iOS and Android users who meet the requirements will be limited to 10 Magic Editor saves per month without a Premium Google One plan. After 10 saves, a Premium Google One plan with at least 2TB of storage will be necessary. Other features like Magic Eraser, Photo Unblur, Sky suggestions, Color pop, HDR effect for photos and videos, Portrait Blur, Portrait Light, Cinematic Photos, Styles in the Collage Editor, and Video Effects will be freely available to all Google Photos users, irrespective of a Google One subscription.
