GitLab 16.11 released with Duo Chat general availability, policy scoping, and much more

GitLab, the renowned platform for code project hosting and collaboration, has unveiled its version 16.11, which includes the general availability of GitLab Duo Chat. This feature, which is freely accessible to all Ultimate and Premium users, supports code explanation, code refactoring, and test generation. The JetBrains IDEs also support GitLab Duo Chat.

The 16.11 update introduces policy scoping, allowing security and compliance teams to tailor policy enforcement to a specific compliance framework or to a subset of included/excluded projects within a group.

Additionally, GitLab's new Product Analytics feature enables application instrumentation and the collection of key user usage and adoption data. This data can be displayed within GitLab, visualized on dashboards, reported on, and filtered in various ways to glean user insights.

The update also provides GitLab.com group Owners the ability to disable the creation and use of personal access tokens for enterprise users within their groups, providing granular control to balance security and accessibility.

GitLab 16.11 incorporates autocomplete support for wiki page links and introduces a redesigned project overview page. This new layout centralizes all project information and links into a single sidebar for improved navigation.

Moreover, GitLab 16.11 brings email notifications for changes made using Switchboard, an option to immediately cancel a pipeline if any job fails, and numerous performance improvements, UI enhancements, and bug fixes.
