Monotype to terminate e-commerce on Fonts.com, consolidate services on MyFonts.com

Monotype, owner of major Font Hosting Services such as MyFonts.com and Fonts.com, has announced the termination of e-commerce functionality on Fonts.com from March 27, 2024. Traffic from Fonts.com will be rerouted to MyFonts.com, Monotype's central e-commerce site, as part of a consolidation strategy initiated on August 30, 2023.

The decision to retire platforms like Fonts.com is part of Monotype's strategy to streamline its direct commerce sales platforms, including the closure of Linotype, FontShop, and the already mentioned, Fonts.com, over the year. Monotype aims to honor the historical legacy of the foundries previously hosted on these platforms. Aisra Shervani, Monotype's Vice President for Digital Commerce, highlighted the need for an enhanced e-commerce experience with a focus on expertise, discovery, and advanced search functionalities.

Monotype's future plans include transforming MyFonts.com into a multilingual platform, offering support for German, French, and Spanish languages. The company also intends to introduce new features to improve customers' ability to discover and purchase typefaces, while concentrating its engineering, UX, and digital efforts on enhancing MyFonts.com's capabilities and customer experience.
