Google Wallet expands functionality to support Apple Wallet's pkpass files
Google Wallet is now expanding its functionality to include support for Apple Wallet pkpass files, enabling the transfer of passes between platforms. This feature is currently only available to a select group of users globally, with no details yet on a wider release.
Previously, transferring passes from Apple's Wallet app to Android was impossible due to Apple's closed ecosystem, so adding a pkpass file to Google Wallet required a third-party app like Pass2U Wallet, but the Wallet app has since incorporated features such as passes, tickets, and credit/debit cards.
Google had promised this support over a year ago, and it's now starting to roll out to some Android users. While some users have confirmed that "pkpass" files are successfully opening and importing in Wallet, the functionality is still a server-side update from Google.
