Google removes 'Nearby places' search feature from Google Phone dialer app
Google Phone dialer app for Android has recently removed the Nearby places search feature. This feature allowed users to search for local businesses using the app's search field. The prompt, which used to be "Search contacts & places," now only encourages users to "Search contacts."
The "Nearby places" feature used the device's location to provide search results for local businesses and was previously available in the app's settings menu. It also offered "Personalized search results" based on the user's search history to increase accuracy.
Google claims that the feature was infrequently used, and its removal allows the company to focus more on enhancing the quality and innovation of phone calling experiences. Users are now advised to use Google's Google Search or Google Maps applications to find phone numbers.
