Sway 1.9: Enhanced Wayland compositor with new protocols and improved performance
Sway, a tiling Wayland compositor serving as a drop-in replacement for the i3 window manager for X11, has launched its 1.9 version. The latest release incorporates all enhancements from wlroots 0.17, providing support for a range of new protocols, including content-type-v1, xwayland-shell-v1, wp-fractional-scale-v1, security-context-v1, and cursor-shape-v1.
The 1.9 version of Sway has also bolstered xdg-activation-v1 support, introducing workspace tracking and multi-seat. A major update in this release is the porting of the rendering code to the new wlroots rendering API, a move that has resulted in improved performance.
Sway 1.9 introduces a new config option that allows users to disable primary selection. Also, new input commands have been added to set libinput's rotation angle and scroll button lock.
Additional features in this release include the ability to use tablet tool buttons for floating mode resize, support for the IPC output event, and the addition of layer-shell's on-demand keyboard interactivity.
