OpenAI is giving ChatGPT a memory to enhance efficiency in future conversations
OpenAI has recently initiated tests on a new feature for ChatGPT, aimed at enhancing its memory capabilities to make future conversations more efficient. This feature would allow the AI to recall discussed topics across all chats, eliminating the need for users to repeatedly provide the same information.
OpenAI emphasizes that users will have full control over ChatGPT's memory. Users can instruct the AI to remember or forget specific details, either conversationally or via settings. The memory feature can also be completely deactivated.
The more ChatGPT is used, the better its memory function will become, with improvements becoming noticeable over time. If the memory feature is turned off, the AI will not create or use memories. Users can command ChatGPT to forget certain information, and they also have the option to view, delete or clear all memories in the settings.
This new feature is currently being rolled out to a limited number of ChatGPT free and Plus users, with plans for a wider release to be announced soon. OpenAI further mentioned that the content provided to ChatGPT, including memories, may be used to enhance their models for all users. However, users have the option to turn off this feature through their Data Controls.
OpenAI also offers a 'temporary chat' option for users who prefer having conversations without the use of memory. These chats will not be recorded in history, will not use memory, and will not be utilized to train OpenAI's models.
For individuals with Enterprise or Team accounts, enhancing the memory function of ChatGPT can prove beneficial in a professional context. By learning your unique communication style and remembering previous interactions, it can tailor its responses to better suit your needs, ultimately saving time and providing more pertinent and informative answers.
