LastPass warns users about counterfeit password manager app on Apple Store

LastPass has warned its users about a counterfeit app, "LassPass Password Manager," (note that 'Lass' is missing a 'T') on the Apple App Store, which closely resembles the original app in design and interface. The fraudulent app, developed by a guy 'Parvati Patel', contains notable differences, including a misspelled name and errors in screenshots, and a privacy policy on bluneel.com, unlike the authentic LastPass app by LogMeIn, Inc.

The use of such fake password managers can pose serious threats like identity theft, and it's suspected that this app may transmit passwords to third parties. The app also falsely claims to be endorsed by over a million users and 10,000 businesses, figures likely borrowed from LastPass.

The company is actively working to eliminate the fake app from the store and is on high alert for any other clones or intellectual property violations. Of course, it's always good to remind users to always verify the authenticity of apps, especially those managing sensitive data like passwords.
