Instagram is developing 'Friend Map' feature for real-time location sharing
Instagram is said to be working on a "Friend Map" feature, similar to Snap Map from Snapchat , which will enable users to see their friends' real-time locations.
Screenshots by Alessandro Paluzzi reveal that users will be able to control who sees their location, with options to share with all followers, "Close Friends," or no one. A "Ghost Mode" feature will be included for users who want to conceal their last active location. The Friend Map will also include a "Notes" feature, similar to Instagram Notes in direct messaging. These notes can be displayed on the map, potentially allowing users to share new discoveries like restaurants or pop-up stores.
It's worth mentioning that according to the company, the location data will be end-to-end encrypted. The Friend Map could attract former Zenly users, a social map app that Snapchat purchased and then discontinued.
