Sublime Text 4's latest update brings many improvements and performance enhancements
Sublime Text has released build 4186, marking the first update in nearly five months for this widely-used code editor. This new version introduces several enhancements and optimizations, particularly in syntax highlighting, with improvements in cache compression performance and the custom regex engine. Memory usage of the syntax engine is reduced under specific conditions, and Git repository scanning sees improved performance. Rendering performance is also enhanced through faster theming.
The update also includes the addition of the unselect_current
command for tab multi-selection and enables minihtml to load images from the internet. Syntax test error messages have been revamped, now allowing for symbol transformation testing. Several bugs have also been addressed, such as issues with prompting to reload, sorting in find-in-files results, and tab order reversal when closing a group. The release also features numerous minor enhancements, performance improvements, and bug fixes.
Great, solid and very fast code editor, with continuous improvement. Sadly for Sublime Text, the competition with all other code editors and IDE is very tough, and since open source has eaten this world, the flexibility of other projects are great beyond it. Nowadays, this editor feels pretty clumsy and obsolete, many plugins are outdated and the whole community has been shrunk tenfold in the last years. Only the shadow of itself, but also the last refuge for old school devs that can still code without online git or AI.
