Samsung is discontinuing DeX for Windows and replacing it with Microsoft’s Phone Link

Samsung is set to discontinue support for its Samsung DeX app on Windows with the upcoming release of One UI 7, as confirmed by a footnote on Samsung's UK website. It’s also worth noting this only affects the native Windows 10 and 11 apps, not the broader Samsung DeX platform, which will continue to support desktop-like experiences from Samsung mobile devices via external monitors.

The company is encouraging Windows users to transition to Microsoft's Phone Link app, which offers similar functionalities, including screen mirroring, file sharing between Android devices and Windows PCs, as well as calls and notification syncing.

The One UI 7 beta is anticipated to launch later this month, with a developer beta expected by year-end. This strategic shift underscores Samsung's ongoing collaboration with Microsoft, focusing on seamless integration between Android devices and Windows.

Samsung DeX, short for "Desktop eXperience," transforms Samsung Galaxy devices like the S8 and S8+ into a desktop-like environment. By connecting a keyboard, mouse, and monitor, users can enjoy a seamless screen mirroring experience. Rated 5, Samsung DeX offers ad-free usage, screen sharing, and support for multiple monitors. Notable alternatives include scrcpy, AirDroid, and Vysor.
