Handbrake 1.9 released with new Intel QSV VVC decoder & support for lossless VP9 encoding
Handbrake has released version 1.9 of its video transcoding software, introducing several new features and enhancements. This update adds the Intel QSV VVC video decoder and an option to enable AV1 screen content coding on the Intel Lunar Lake QSV AV1 encoder. It also supports lossless VP9 encoding. Users can now choose to keep duplicated Blu-ray titles and set a maximum duration for scanning disc-based sources.
Audio improvements include the addition of the ALAC encoder and Vorbis passthru, along with better DTS audio profile scanning. Subtitles see enhancements in burn-in quality and a fix for a rare video corruption issue during the process. Version 1.9 updates numerous third-party libraries, notably FFmpeg 7.1 and AMF 1.4.35.
Platform-specific updates include bug fixes for Linux, range limit controls for the Add to Queue window on macOS and Windows, and DirectX video decoding support on Windows for ARM devices. The update also brings performance improvements in the filter pipeline for ARM devices and a new Start Later option in the Queue Window for Windows users. Additionally, Handbrake 1.9 features miscellaneous bug fixes, improvements, and updated translations across all platforms.
