Aegisub 3.4.0 launches after a decade-long wait for a new version
Aegisub has introduced version 3.4.0, its first stable update in a decade, focusing on compatibility with modern systems rather than new features. The update drops support for 32-bit systems and currently operates on Windows 7, with potential future updates requiring Windows 10.
The default installer omits DependencyControl, an optional tool that can slow down startup. The build process now uses the Meson system, reducing vendored dependencies but still including some. Aegisub builds must use LuaJIT in 5.2 compatibility mode to avoid script issues, and unsupported builds will not receive support.
MacOS users face challenges as signed and notarized binaries are unavailable due to Apple's unexplained denial of developer program access. Future updates will be available in the TypesettingTools, and developers are advised against using Link-Time Optimization for builds.
