Steam's native gameplay recording is out of beta and available for everyone

Steam has officially released its native gameplay recording tool for all users, following its initial introduction last June. This feature — integrated into the Steam client — allows PC, Mac, and Steam Deck players to capture and share audio and video from their gaming sessions. Users can choose to run the recording in the background or manually initiate it, similar to functionalities found in AMD Radeon ReLive and NVIDIA ShadowPlay.

The recording tool can be activated manually with the default hotkey Ctrl+F11, or set to start automatically. Users have the option to configure the recording's length, quality, and storage space. Additional features include the ability to add timeline markers with Ctrl+F12 and take screenshots using F12. These timeline markers assist in navigating recordings by highlighting significant moments. Steam automatically generates markers for key in-game events, such as boss battles and eliminations. Developers can utilize the Game Recording API to customize these events.

This toolset offers a straightforward way to record gameplay and perform basic edits, streamlining the process of sharing gaming clips.
